Is Chipotle about to close its doors?

​Recent online rumors have suggested that Chipotle Mexican Grill is closing its restaurants due to bankruptcy. However, these claims are unfounded. The confusion appears to have originated from the closure of Chipotle’s spinoff venture, Farmesa Fresh Eatery, which led to misunderstandings about the parent company’s status. Chipotle has clarified that it remains financially stable and continues to operate its restaurants without plans for closure.

In fact, Chipotle is expanding internationally. In July 2023, the company announced a partnership with Alshaya Group to open new restaurants in the Middle East, starting with Dubai and Kuwait in 2024. This marks Chipotle’s first development agreement in the region and demonstrates its commitment to growth. ​

As of March 31, 2023, Chipotle operated over 3,200 restaurants across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. The company plans to open more than 255 new locations this year, aiming for a long-term target of 7,000 locations in North America. ​
